Credit Repair Tips

Racking up debt is so easy these days, what with credit cards and online shopping. It doesn’t matter if you’re paying your bills late or just ignoring them and not paying them at all, it’s still going to have the same effect. Your credit is going to take a huge hit, especially if you’re thousands of dollars in debt and not making any payments. Fortunately there are some do it yourself credit repair tips that can help, and these are quick and simple things that you can do on your own.

One of the most effective do it yourself credit repair tips is to cut up all the credit cards that you own, or at least all but one. For over spenders this can take all the willpower in the world but it’s going to be very worth it in the end. Even if you think that you have the willpower to keep your cards in your wallet, this is really just the easiest way. Besides, you can always go get replacement cards later on down the line once you’ve got your finances sorted.

Another helpful do it yourself credit repair tip is to obtain a copy of your credit report. You can see which areas are the most negative and which need to be attended to right away. Focus on the more negative areas of your credit report, and make a list of all bills that are already in collections. These are the ones that are having the most negative impact on your credit rating.

If you’ve kept track of your credit rating up until now, you’ll be able to see how much it’s dropped from when your credit history first began. These are the bills that are in the worst situation and which are having the most negative impact on your credit rating at this time. Even if you can’t get everything paid off at once, at least contact the different companies and let them know that you’re not just ignoring them and that you’re willing to pay. The most important thing is that you contact the different companies you owe, and let all your debtors know that you’re ready to start making payments.

Chances are they’re going to be more than happy and willing to work out a payment arrangement with you. They may even be willing to take off some of what you owe, just for being open and willing to communicate. Rather than racking up bills on clothes and home accessories each month, focus on your bills. Once some of your bills are paid off and you have extra money each month you can spend a bit more freely.
